FIRST FRIDAYS
A writers' group just for YOU!

Next meeting: Friday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Writing exercises, critiquing, and much more!
If you are looking for motivation and inspiration to start writing, keep writing, or take the next step toward having your work published, this is the group for you. Every month 10 to 20 creative, friendly individuals meet at the library to discuss writing issues and offer postive feedback/insight into each others' work over coffee and snacks. We also have guest speakers including local authors, writing professors, and publishers to help inspire and keep us focused.
Writers of every level, including beginners, are welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Jessica at 437-5021 ext. 109 or jwilliams@scls.lib.wi.us
The Big Read Has Landed
What’s all the hype? Have you heard? Mount Horeb Public Library is leading a village-wide Big Read! We’re encouraging everyone in the Mount Horeb area to read the same book. Pick up The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett and get ready to have some fun at the library!
We’ve given away our 60 free copies of The Maltese Falcon, but never fear. We'll help you place a copy on hold so you can join in the fun. Big Read events will kick off with an engaging book discussion on Monday, September 29 at 6:45 pm. Read the book and then watch the movie. Stop by the library on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 pm in time for popcorn, beverages and the showing of The Maltese Falcon starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor. The film, originally released in October 1941, was billed as “thrilling, chilling… [and] the most baffling mystery story in years!”
What do the experts say about Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon? Join us at the library on Saturday, October 18 at 1:00 pm to hear local mystery author John Galligan’s spin on the book. At 2:15 pm, English Professor and noir fiction buff Sheila Carmody winds up our Big Read celebration with Mythbusters, a look at The Maltese Falcon and The DaVinci Code!
Tired of talking about rising gas prices and the latest lousy weather when you run into your neighbors at the store? Chat about The Maltese Falcon instead. With the whole village reading the same book, you’ll have something fun to talk about for a change!
For more Big Read information or to reserve your copy of the book, please contact Jessica Williams at 437-5021 ext. 109 or jwilliams (at) scls.lib.wi.us
