Preschool-Squirmys Garden

Squirmy’s Garden: Squirmy the worm guides young readers and pre-readers ages 3–6 through Summer reading adventures all about bugs! Weekly storytimes include stories, fingerplays, songs, snacks or crafts.
Young readers may also follow the clues, explore the library, and find Squirmy. He’ll be in a different spot each week.

This program is designed for pre-readers and beginning readers. If your child is in this age group but can already read, consider choosing the Intermediate game.

Intermediate-Bug Defenders

Bug Defenders: The Bug Defenders’ League is recruiting all readers age 6–11. Buzz through bug-a-licious activities, and decipher puzzling insect brain twisters.

The Caterpillars and the Monarchs (optional book clubs) meet every other Tuesday to talk about buggy books and do creepy crafts.
This program is designed for children who can read to themselves. Crafts may be made with or without the help of an adult, using readily available household items. Instructions are provided.

Teen-Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis! Advanced readers age 11 and up are in for creeptastic, insectile fun at the library this summer. The Teen game sheet is more challenging than the Intermediate, with more difficult puzzles and crafts geared toward an older reader’s level of ability.

Special teen events include Photo Metamorphosis, a hands-on exploration of the new Adobe online program Photoshop Express, and a special outdoor, nighttime horror movie.

Teen prizes include a chance to win an iPod Shuffle!
