Reach Out & Read:

"Reach Out & Read" is an alternate Summer Reading Challenge to make an impact with your reading. For each hour you read, you will earn $0.50 to be donated to a local non-profit. Open to ages 6-18.

At the end of the summer, library staff will count all the hours read and the total amount up to $500 will be donated to Mount Horeb Neighbors Helping Neighbors. You may participate in both the reading challenge with prizes and Reach Out & Read, but an hour of reading does not count for both programs. You must track your time separately. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. (Please come to the library starting June 9  to pick up your reading tracker.)

Upcoming Events

Saturdays, June 7 & August 2 @ 10 am

Any and all caregivers are welcome to this all ages storytime! Donuts and coffee provided as a special sweet treat.

The content is geared towards young children and includes readalouds, songs, and an activity. Feel free to just show up, registration is not required. This program runs approximately 30 minutes.

From June 9 through June 30, visit the library to pick up a tiny canvas (for a family or for an individual) to create your very own masterpiece. Use your imagination and whatever supplies you have at home to create a one-of-a-kind work of art for display in the library. Return your completed work of art by June 30: include the Title of the work, name(s) and age(s) of the artist(s), and a brief description on the included notecard. Kids, teens, and adults are all invited to participate.

The Tiny Art Show will be displayed at the library July 1-19. Art may be collected from the library during open hours from July 21-26. Artwork that is not picked up by July 28 will be disposed of.

Rules & guidelines:

  • All artwork must be on a 4×4 canvas and able to be displayed on an easel or flat against a wall.
  • Other than food, all materials are welcome to be used in the creation of your art.
  • Artwork and the titles of the artwork must be appropriate for all ages.
  • Library staff reserves the right to reject any art that does not follow these guidelines.
  • All entries may be reproduced for public distribution, displayed in the library, and posted to the library's social media channels and website. The Mount Horeb Public Library may use each participant's name, design, and photo for publicity purposes.
